Communicating project results to a general audience enhances their value. Many projects have included presentations and tours for public and professional groups. Public awareness of project results can generate goodwill for the client. We have collaborated with museum professionals at the Arizona Historical Society, the Museum of Northern Arizona, and the Amerind Foundation to develop interpretive exhibits based on Desert Archaeology projects. We have prepared text for interpretive signs used in parks and outdoor displays, as well as consulted in modeling reconstructions of historic sites and buildings. Desert Archaeology staff have also participated in developing teaching materials for local school districts. Articles
related to Desert Archaeology projects have appeared in national and
regional publications such as American Archaeology,
Archaeology, Smithsonian Magazine,
Atlantic Monthly, and Archaeology
Southwest. Often
available online, these articles both inform and educate the public
about the benefits of public-private cooperation in cultural resources
management.
