Treatment
Plans
Excavation phases are guided by project-specific plans that describe the research
context and methods to be used to accomplish the tasks. Plans are reviewed and
approved by the client and relevant compliance agencies.
Testing / Phase 1 Data Recovery
Preliminary excavation phases are designed to determine the nature and distribution
of subsurface features in the project area and whether the resources meet eligibility
requirements for inclusion in the National
Register of Historic Places. Results provide the necessary data to plan an
effective approach to full data recovery, if needed.
Data Recovery
Mitigation strategies for archaeological sites are tailored to the specific effects
of a project and can include elements of avoidance, site preservation, and selective
data recovery excavations.
Other Mitigation Measures
Historical and architectural documentation are used to recover information from
National Register-eligible buildings or structures affected by a project. This
documentation typically includes historic background information, archival research
to identify records relating to the property's use and occupants, measured architectural
drawings, a photographic record, and a descriptive narrative.
